英文版的读后感篇1
usually,we have contact with many world-famous novels, telling the essence of life. the stories of characters” life move us give us a lot of enlightenment.
however, anna sewell”s black beauty is a different one,as its main character is a black, handsome horse called black beauty. sewell has spent 6 years on this book, while she was seriously sick. unfortunately, she died soon after her only book in her whole life was published.
as sewell was crippled and unable to walk since a young age,she by nature had sympathy on the poor animals. therefore, black beauty it is not a fairy tale, but a book which seriously talks the issue of the abuse of animals.
and this story is narrated in the first person as an autobiographical memoir by black beauty himself. in this way,it becomes easier for readers to understand the whole story better and more clearly.
when i begin to read this book,i am absorbed in this book immediately,as if i were the horse, experiencing his life with difficulties and set-backs.
black beauty, who has changed his name for several times during different periods of lifetime,is a handsome horse with a life full of both happiness and suffering. he has been well trained,so he always tried to behave well.
however, then he was sold from one owner to another,he began to realize how tragic his fate is. his life story has moved all the readers deeply.
the author started this story by black beauty describing his memory about his happy childhood, when he was accompanied by his mother and taught to be a good horse. at the age of 2,black beauty witnessed an accident of hunting for a hare, which caused the rider falling from the horse, dead.
later that wounded horse was killed. and at the age of 4,black beauty was old enough to begin the use of saddle, bridle, carriage harness and shoes. then he was sent to birtwick park and named of black beauty by mrs. gordon. birtwick park became his first pleasant home for three years, where he grew strong and met many friends with different characteristics and experiences.
one of his friends was ginger, who was ill-tempered because of a hard life with previous owners. and as a result, ginger often got wild and bit others. sir oliver got a shortened tail because his previous owner thought it was fashionable. also, there was a groom, little joe green.
at first,he was too young to know how to properly how to take care of the hot and tired black beauty after an emergency, making black beauty seriously sick. grieved, joe began to do his best to learn hors care. however, soon, the gorgons had to move because of mrs. gordon”s health,so they sold black beauty and ginger to earlshall park.
in earlshall park, the use of bearing rein made ginger and black beauty painful,so finally ill-tempered ginger rebelled. then she was used as a hunter, but black beauty was much praised because once he saved lady anne. however, his unfortunate life has not changed since then. our poor black beauty got his knees ruined because mr. rubber smith, who was drunk, took black beauty on a dangerous ride and at last killed himself after falling down. as a result, black beauty was sold as a job horse. although,he was arranged by a smart customer to be sold to a gentleman afterwards,he still had a hard life, because the groom stole the oats in his food. tired of the trouble of keeping a horse, the gentleman sold black beauty again, this time, black beauty was lucky to have a kind-hearted new owner;a cab driver in london called jerry. what”s more, jerry”s families were all kind-hearted,which made black beauty happy to bear the hard work of pulling a cab every day. by chance,he met ginger. she was mistreated as a cab horse;in such a great pain that she was longing for death. and soon,it came true. at the same time, jerry became weaker and weaker, and finally he was ill in bed after waiting for two customers on a bitter cold night. after his recovery, jerry was told not to work as s cab driver any more,so black beauty was sold again.
black beauty”s new owner,a corn dealer, was kind to him,but the dealer”s foreman, jakes, often overworked the horse and used the bearing rein. once advertised by a kind lady, jakes was easier on black beauty. however, the dark stables nearly made black beauty blind. after sold to work as a cab horse again, beauty was too old and too weak. once he was exhausted because of the heavy load. saved from being put down by a doctor, beauty found a new owner,a farmer. with full effort,he rejuvenated beauty and sold him to miss ellen and miss blomefield. to beauty”s surprise,he met joe green there. form then on,black beauty began a happy life at his last home.
after reading this book, one may admire black beauty”s strong will, persistence, and loyalty,or feel sympathetic on him and feel happy for him to get a happy ending. however,it needs our deeper thinking,a much deeper thinking. in fact, sewell doesn”t only focus on showing black beauty”s great characteristics. by telling black beauty”s whole life story, she aimed at revealing the hard life of animals at that time and altering us the crime of those who abuse animals.
from beauty”s suffering during his whole life time,we can see the tragic life of animals at that time. some people ran after the so-called fashion blindly. in order to satisfy their own vanity, they ignored animals” great pain. for example, sir oliver”s shortened tail. what the so-called fashion gave animals is great pain rather than a beautiful appearance. some people knew nothing about how to keep animals, and were always making them work all day long. they abused the animals to make as much money as possible until they died. therefore,on the day when the animals died, their holiday was on the way. for example, the poor ginger that died for overwork. though some people kept animals well, their main purpose was to have fun and to show off. they were more abominable. for example,in order to hunt for a hare, the rider killed himself at last and caused the wounded horse”s death. as beauty said,it wasn”t worthwhile, wasn”t it? those people who abuse d animals showed no sympathy or love on the poor animals at all. when they needed animals, they kept animals;when they didn”t need animals, they killed animals ruthlessly. to them, all animals were toys, from which they could make fun,or tools, from which they could make money. and the fate of animals at that time, like horses, was being sold from one owner to another, experiencing different kinds of suffering in the whole life. from the standpoint of animals,it must be terrible to be sold again and again.
let”s see what the result is. sir oliver got great annoyance and discomfort because of its shortened tail. ginger was ill-tempered and bit others often. what”s more, numerous animals died because of over work. what a tragedy!
in fact, the abuse of animals not only happened in the past, but also today, maybe right at this moment,a civilized age. years ago,i got to know that a few girls cut down a cat”s feet, and then threw it on the street, leaving it bleeding to death. and the year before,it was reported that a student from qinghua university, gave black bears sulfate to drink, which gave black bears a great pain. as to the facts that some old or sick animals are abandoned,it has been very common. although some organizations aiming at protecting animals have been set up,the abuse of animals can not be prevented. maybe nowadays the abuse of animals was caused by life pressure, but life pressure can not be an excuse to abuse animals. those people who live under life pressure should find other ways to solve the problem, but not avoid it by hurting animals.
however,if one can treat animals kindly, the result will be different. kind people who love animals, such as mrs. gordon, joe, jerry, get animals” love and respect in return. as they were friendly to horses, horses are friendly to them and would like to do as much work as they can for them, even sacrifice themselves when their owners were in danger.
i am sure, animals and human can become good friends. no animals will do harm to human,if human have not frightened them first. if you would like to try to have a close and friendly touch with animals, whether tigers or dogs, you will find that they are lovely. its true that we are much cleverer than animals, but our intelligence should not act as the tool to dominant animals. in fact,we human and animals have the same feeling, because we are all created by one nature, and share one nature together. therefore, human have no right to abuse them,or kill them. on the contrary,we should protect them, which is our real sacred and glorious obligation.
do not put the "bearing rein" on the animals. it is cruel.
do not always focus on our own happiness. it is selfish.
try to open our eyes to animals that are suffering a hard life.
try to understand the black beauty, and the author.
try to give a hand in ending the abuse of animals.
at last,i want to conclude by a sentence from this book,"there is no religion without love, and people may talk as much as they like about their religion, but if it dose not teach them to be good and kind to other animals as well as humans,it is all a shame"
英文版的读后感篇2
i first read "jane eyre" in eighth grade and have read it every few years since. it is one of my favorite novels, and so much more than a gothic romance to me, although that's how i probably would have defined it at age 13. i have always been struck, haunted in a way, by the characters - jane and mr. rochester. they take on new depth every time i meet them...and their's is a love story for the ages.
charlotte bronte's first published novel, and her most noted work, is a semi-autobiographical coming-of-age story. jane is plain, poor, alone and unprotected, but due to her fierce independence and strong will she grows and is able to defy society's expectations of her. this is definitely feminist literature, published in 1847, way before the beginning of any feminist movement. perhaps this is one of the reasons why the novel has had such a wide following since it first came on the market. it is also one of the first gothic romances published and defines the genre.
jane eyre, who is our narrator, was born into a poor family. jane eyre's parents died when she was a small child and the little girl was sent to live with her uncle and aunt reed at gateshead. jane's uncle truly cared for her and showed his affection openly, but mrs. reed seemed to hate the orphan, and neglected her while she pampered and spoiled her own children. this unfair treatment emphasized jane's status as an unwanted outsider. she was often punished harshly. on one occasion her nasty cousin jack picked a fight with her. jane tried to defend herself and was locked in the terrifying "red room" as a result. jane's uncle reed had died in this room a little while before, and mrs. reed knew how frightened she was of the chamber. since jane is the narrator, the reader is given a first-hand impression of the child's feelings, her heightened emotional state at being imprisoned. indeed, she seems almost like an hysterical child, filled with terror and rage. she repeatedly calls her condition in life "unjust" and is filled with bitterness. looking into the mirror jane sees a distorted image of herself. she views her reflection and sees a "strange little figure," or "tiny phantom." jane has not learned yet to subordinate her passions to her reason. jane eyre's passions still erupt unchecked. jane eyre's isolation in the red room is a presentiment of her later isolation from almost every society and community. this powerful, beautifully written scene never fails to move me.
mrs. reed decided to send jane away to the lowood school, a poor institution run by mr. brocklehurst, who believed that suffering made grand people. all the children there were neglected, except to receive harsh punishment when any mistake was made. at lowood, jane met helen burns, a young woman a little older than jane, who guided her with vision, light and love for the rest of her life. jane's need for love was so great. it really becomes obvious in this first friendship. helen later died from fever, in jane's arms. jane eyre's illness and death could have been avoided if more attention had been paid to the youths. jane stayed at lowood for ten years, eight as a student and two as a teacher. tired and depressed by her surroundings, jane applied for the position of governess and found employment at thornfield. the mansion is owned by a gentleman named edward fairfax rochester. jane eyre's job there was to teach his ward, an adorable little french girl, adele. over a long period the moody, inscrutable rochester confides in jane and she in him. the two form an unlikely friendship and eventually fall in love. again, jane's need for love comes to the fore, as does her passionate nature. she blooms. a dark, gothic figure, rochester also has a heart filled with the hope of true love and future happiness with jane. ironically, he has brought all his misery, past and future, on himself.
all is not as it seems at thornfield. there is a strange, ominous woman servant, grace poole, who lives and works in an attic room. she keeps to herself and is rarely seen. from the first, however, jane has sensed bizarre happenings at night, when everyone is asleep .there are wild cries along with violent attempts on rochester's life by a seemingly unknown person. jane wonders why no one investigates mrs. poole. then a strange man visits thornfield and mysteriously disappears with mr. rochester. late that night jane is asked to sit with the man while the lord of the house seeks a doctor's help. the man has been seriously wounded and is weak from loss of blood. he leaves by coach, in a sorry state, first thing in the morning. jane's questions are not answered directly. this visit will have dire consequences on all involved. an explosive secret revealed will destroy all the joyful plans that jane and rochester have made. jane, once more will face poverty and isolation.
charlotte bronte's heroine jane eyre, may not have been graced with beauty or money, but she had a spirit of fire and was filled with integrity and a sense of independence - character traits that never waned in spite of all the oppression she encountered in life. ms. bronte brings to the fore in "jane eyre" such issues as: the relations between men and women in the mid-19 century, women's equality, the treatment of children and of women, religious faith and hypocrisy (and the difference between the two), the realization of selfhood, and the nature of love and passion. this is a powerhouse of a novel filled with romance, mystery and passions. it is at once startlingly fresh and a portrait of the times. ms. bronte will make your heart beat faster, your pulse race and your eyes fill with tears.
英文版的读后感篇3
this summer holiday,i made a good friend --- robinson though ‘robinson crusoe’. ‘robinson crusoe’is a classical masterpiece which attracted me very much, and brought me much enlightenmet.i really lerned a lot of things from the eternal opus. the ‘robinson crusoe’have been authored by famouse english writer---defoe. it’s about dramatis personae robinson who met a frightful wind while he sailed on the sea. he was the only survinal, but he drifted to a uninhabited island. he bravely struggled, industriously worked and combated with barbarians. robinson lived alone on the island for 28 years. he experienced many difficulties and dangers. robinson was a great person, he conquered countleand unimaginable hardships. if i stayed on a lonely island, i absolutely couldn’t vanquish dangers. i maybe would lose confidence for life. i respect robinson very much, he is a real hero in my heart.
he lived on the island for about 30 years without any food, tool or habitation.
he must depend by himself. robinson wasn’t afraid of hardships, he had the fortitude spirit .he was brave in adventure and was good at labor. he used his head and hands to struggle all the time. i admire his courge very much, because these were not easy, work at all. in fact, we also need the spirit of being undefeatalle indefatigable. like robinson. if we believe in ourselves, never give up and do we best, we must be successful! robinson was a great miracle, he achieved mumerous. ‘impossible things’. ‘robinson crusoe’ was an immortal novel, because it gave us a courageous, intrepidity, diligent, indefatigable and wise ordinany person, a vanquish nature, a hero who exploited nature. the book is a really excellent adventuresome novel, there is no perfect life in the world, but we can change our fate. if we have confidences and work hard, we absolute will be victorious, and the most important thing is ‘never give up!
英文版的读后感篇4
"little prince" is about to tell a story of alien children to live in a very small planet, that planet there is only one him, he has to take care of the planet, he is the planet the little prince, grown up, he went to other planets travel, has encountered all sorts of people (aliens)。 finally he came to the author encountered on earth, and then died here
look at this book, adults should not ripe to look at the mentality, to the point of view of your heart to understand it. the little prince has a pure heart and a rich imagination.
when the little prince left his planet, on the road, when a king, and that king would just like to control all rational, this is not like us? especially when the teacher, like to go to other people, because order that other people can find themselves high up above and become a king, others only obeys.
the second encounter is love are people who love to be admired him, praise him anything except hear, in fact, we ourselves do they not? others as long as one to praise himself, we do not carried away on it? through this we can easily become conceited person, but also easy for the offensive.
there drunkard, but also a businessman, even to light lamps and geographer, i think those people is equivalent to our portrayal of the real world, love the order, and love to be admired, i would like to re-occupy the possession, finally left with nothing … …
i think the little prince this book is a family book, in this book, i can feel that for whom fame for modern day busy round, but not know they have a deep impact on the younger generation, small prince did not understand why adults want to do that? like all children have the same do not know. so i felt, how many more to understand the needs of children, and is no longer a random perfunctory, more children to learn about the ideas, interests, rather than restraint.
i am prince from an early age i learned one thing, the really important things, the eyes are invisible. really important things is to look at motives.
英文版的读后感篇5
jane eyre, is a poor but aspiring, small in body but huge in soul, obscure but self-respecting girl. after we close the covers of the book, after having a long journey of the spirit, jane eyre, a marvelous figure, has left us so much to recall and to think:
we remember her goodness: for someone who lost arms and blinded in eyes, for someone who despised her for her ordinariness, and even for someone who had hurt her deeply in the past.
we remember her pursuit of justice. it's like a companion with the goodness. but still, a virtuous person should promote the goodness on one side and must check the badness on the other side.
we remember her self-respect and the clear situation on equality. in her opinion, everyone is the same at the god's feet. though there are differences in status、in property and also in appearance, but all the human being are equal in personality.
we also remember her striving for life, her toughness and her confidence…
when we think of this girl, what she gave us was not a pretty face or a transcendent temperament that make us admire deeply, but a huge charm of her personality.
actually, she wasn't pretty, and of course, the ordinary appearance didn't make others feel good of her, even her own aunt felt disgusted with it. and some others even thought that she was easy to look down on and to tease, so when miss ingram met jane eyre, she seemed quite contemptuous, for that she was obviously much more prettier than 'the plain and ugly governess‘。 but as the little governess had said: 'do you think, because i am poor, obscure, plain, and little, i am soulless and heartless? you think wrong!' this is the idea of equality in jane eyre's mind. god hadn't given her beauty and wealth, but instead, god gave her a kind mind and a thinking brain. jane eyre's idea of equality and self-respect impress us so much and let us feel the power inside her body.
in my mind, though a person's beauty on the face can make others once feel that one is attractive and charming, if his or her mind isn't the same beautiful as the appearance, such as beauty cannot last for, when others find that the beauty which had charmed them was only a falsity, it's not true, they will like the person no more. for a long time, only a person's great virtue, a noble soul, a beautiful heart can be called as an everlasting beauty, just as kahill gibran has said, that 'beauty is a heart enflamed and a soul enchanted’。 i can feel that how beauty really is, as we are all fleshly men, so we can't distinguish whether a man is of nobleness or humbleness, but fleshly men, so we can't distinguish whether a man is of nobleness or humbleness, but as there are great differences in our souls, and from that, we can know that whether a man is noble or ordinary, and even obscure, that is, whether he is beautiful or not.
