my hometown which is in the south of shanxi province is a very beautiful village. it lies on the east bank of a small river surrounded by green mountains in the past my hometown was poor and people led a hard life. they couldnt afford to send their children to school.

but great changes have taken place in my hometown in the past twenty years. many families .have not only color tv sets but also telephones fridges computers and so on. new roads houses schools hospitals have been built. people in my hometown are working hard for a better life.

secondly, reading would offer inexhaustible mental nutrition. good books teach us and help us to do well. they are our real companions. they are both instructive and inspiring. through reading, the beauties of nature, the miracles of art, the spectacles of architecture, and the marvels of engineering are all opened to our wonder and appreciation. moreover, it really builds up a full comprehension of love, hatred, happiness and sorrows in our heart. we are able to experience various kinds of lives---what more is there to desire than that?

thirdly, it is fruitful for us to learn from the book after reading it. books are our friends; they take us to all the countries in the world; they tell us stories of all ages; they teach us the truth. with reading, we can learn innumerable things we do not know, be aware of what has happened in the past as well as what is going to happen in the future, and solve the urgent problems that beset us. gradually, we come to know how to be a real person and how to observe the world.

应用文的这一个特点，仍然是和它的套路性、格式化有关。因此，我们更加需要用词的'准确性。需要我们对于一些语言的语体特点(genre features)进行区分。以免让词汇的语体影响到准确性。写给机构的信函，应该避免使用太口语化的语言。例如06年是写给一个机构的申请信，而08年是写给友人的私人信件，那么在这两年的应用文写作中，就要求使用不同的语言。从称呼到正文部分，08年的文章用词都可以更口语化和随意一些。正因为这种套路的稳定性，对于同等基础的考生来讲，这部分很难达到技压群雄的效果，很难拉开和别人的距离。也就是说，对于所有的考生来说，得10分不容易，但是得2分甚至4分也很不容易。

一、格式

1.称呼：

英语应用文称呼有这样的特点：

1)如果是不认识的人，一般称呼为敬词+尊称。

例如，dear sir or madam 或者to whom it may concern (需注意每个单词首字母都大写)。

2)如果是写给关系正式的某团体或个人，称呼为敬词+尊称+名。

例如，dear mr. xx,或dear ms.xx;

3)对于关系较亲密的人可以直呼其名，即 dear xx。

2.正文：
